FAQs

Do I need to pair the PhoneLynx™ to my cell phone every time?

You only need to pair it once. After that it will synch (on most phone) as soon as your cell phone gets in range. The range for a Bluetooth connection is about 30 feet.

Why is this better than a Skype-In account?

Skype is an internet calling service that allows you to register a “regular” phone number (Skype-In Number) for others to call you. It has nothing to do with your home phones and you must still have your computer on or a dedicated device running Skype software to receive incoming calls.

Why is this better than the VOiP (computer connected) solutions?

These are Voice Over IP (VoIP) calling solution. This basically means “Voice Over Internet” or “Voice Over Computer”. Your computer needs to be on all the time to get incoming calls. You also need to be connected to the internet all the time. It is not a solution for everyone. None of this is required with PhoneLynx™.

Can this be used in an Small Office or Home Office to consolidate to just my cell phone?

Sure! You can use the convenient features of your desk phone, like speakerphone, but the calls will be conducted through your cell phone and the PhoneLynx™. If you are starting a small business then this product is perfect for you. Never sign up with the “phone company” for a desk phone!
*Note- Your office will need to use standard phones and phone connections. This is more common at small business.

Can I make outbound calls from my home phones?

Yes, you simply pick up a connected extension and dial out. The PhoneLynx™ will send a command to your cell phone, using Bluetooth Wireless Technology, to dial that number.

How do I dial 911 or other emergency services with this product?

This product is not recommended for calls to any emergency number nor emergency service (e.g. 211, 911, 999 etc). To perform calls of this type please make sure to use a landline or a cell/mobile phone. The PhoneLynx™ will attempt to dial 911, through your cell phone’s connection, if the homephone handset is properly paired to your cell phone. This will be similar to dialing 911 from your cell/mobile phone or from a Bluetooth® headset.

Can I dial a number on my phone’s Address Book?

You can dial any number on your home phone’s address book. The PhoneLynx™ will send a command to your cell phone, using Bluetooth Wireless Technology, to dial that number.

What if I’d like to dump my land line, but I want a dedicated home number?

You could sign up for an “add-a-line” with your cellular provider and leave that cell phone at home. Synched to the PhoneLynx™! The new number portability regulations allow subscribers, remaining in the same geographic area, to switch from a wireless, wireline, or VoIP provider to any other wireless, wireline, or VoIP provider and still keep their existing phone numbers. This allows porting your old home number over to the new cell phone (the one you leave at home).

What are the audible “Welcome Home” tones?

The PhoneLynx™ has a beep that lets you know it’s paired with your cell phone when you come back in range at the home or office. It’s just confirmation that it’s working properly.

Can I use the PhoneLynx™ to feed many phones throughout the home or office?

The PhoneLynx™ is designed to feed a phone signal to 3 standard home phones or 10 complete wireless home phone systems (base units plus handsets). This will handle many more than most home phone systems have.

Can my young children use PhoneLynx™ to make a call from my cell phone?

Yes, in fact many parents of young children have made the switch to become a “cell phone only” household. Theses parents are happy to allow their young pre-teen children to make phone calls, but they don’t necessarily want to hand over their new iPhone®, Droid® or Blackberry®. The PhoneLynx™ would allow the pre-teen to make their phone calls from any home phone without actually holding (and breaking or gaming with) the new smartphone phone!
